1.1. Different sex, different life?

We all know that where you are born, has an impact on the rest of your life. Maar have you ever thought about how being born as a girl or boy also has a pretty big impact on your life?

It is almost impossible to guess how having a different biological sex would influence you, but it is possible that you wouldn’t really feel or act differently. You would not change as an entire person. You are and will be ‘you’. Maybe you would experience pressure however, to wear certain clothing, to surround yourself with people of the same sex, you might choose a different school, or a new hobby, etc. This is because there are different expectations of what it means to ‘be a woman’ and ‘be a man’.

A trainer shares: “During a training for first-year students, who were training to become primary education teachers, I asked what students would do differently if they had a different gender. I expected answers like ‘peeing standing up, wearing dresses, etc.’. But I was shocked when I heard their answers. More than 90 per cent of the women in the class gave me the same answer: “I would have chosen a different field of study”.
