Another way to introduce the LGBTI-topic in your school or classroom, is by being aware of your own language.
Take a second to figure out which gendered language you might use.
Once you have realized how your language might be gendered, it is time to find alternatives. Instead of the “Hey guys”, or “Listen up boys and girls” you might use to welcome your students, you can use a gender neutral alternative like: “Hey everyone, listen up”.
Watch out specifically, for language that frames gender negatively or in a stereotypical way, such as “You run like a girl” or “I am looking for some strong boys to move the tables”.
